ADOPTED KIDS WITH GAY PARENTS THRIVE >>

Children who are adopted by gay and lesbian couples grow and develop just as well as those adopted by heterosexual couples, a new US study has found.

Researchers studied 106 preschool-age children who had been adopted at birth and found they were all developing well regardless of whether their parents were gay, lesbian or heterosexual. Positive development was associated with how warmly chldren were treated by their parents.

"Our results provide no justification for denying lesbian or gay prospective adoptive parents the opportunity to adopt children," says lead study author Charlotte J. Patterson.

"Findings suggest that outreach to lesbian and gay prospective adoptive parents might benefit children in need."

"We found that children adopted by lesbian and gay couples are thriving."

LOOK AT IT THIS WAY >>

Politicians of all persuasions say they have no truck with discrimination, that gay people should have the same rights as heterosexual couples. But they continue to discriminate on the grounds of same-sex marriage. It's hipocritical, nasty and spineless. As Mr T would say, it's time politicians "got some nuts" on this one.

NEWSFLASH: HOT ELECTION RESULT PREDICTION >>

Sunday 22 Aug 2010, updated Tuesday 24 Aug 2010

CARETAKER PRIME MINISTER JULIA GILLARD WINS ELECTION AND WILL FORM GOVERNMENT.

TONY ABBOTT WILL ADMIT DEFEAT IF HE CANNOT HOLD 76 OUTRIGHT AFTER ALL COUNTING OF REMAINING SEATS AND POSTAL VOTES.

AS BOTH PARTIES CANNOT FORM GOVERNMENT OUTRIGHT WITH 76 SEATS OF THE MAJORITY OF THE 150 HOUSE OF REP SEATS AUSTRALIA WIDE, THE INDEPENDENTS WILL BE NEGOTIATING WITH THE GOVERNMENT MORE LIKELY TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE SUPPLY THROUGH THE SENATE. AS THE GREENS HOLD POWER IN THE SENATE NOW AND FROM JULY, AND AS THE GREENS ALLIANCE IS WITH THE AUSTRALIAN LABOR PARTY THEY HOLD THE MAJORITY AND THEREFORE SUPPLY TO BRING HOUSE OF REP POLICIES TO FRUITION. THE LIBNAT ALLIANCE WILL NOT ABLE TO FORM GOVERNMENT AS THEY CANNOT GUARANTEE ANY PROMISES THEY MAKE TO THE INDEPENDENTS IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AS THE LABOR GREENS HOLD THE BALANCE OF POWER IN THE SENATE WHICH APPROVES AND SIGNS OFF ON ANY DECISIONS MADE IN THE HOUSE OF REPS.

NO MATTER HOW MUCH MR ABBOTT PROMISES ANY INDEPENDENTS IN THE HOUSE OF REPS HE CANNOT GUARANTEE SUPPLY OR ANY PROMISES TO COME TO FRUITION IN THE SENATE AND ALSO THEREFORE CANNOT GUARANTEE A STABLE GOVERNMENT WITH A MAJORITY LABOR GREENS ALLIANCE IN THE SENATE.

THE GILLARD GOVERNMENT IS NEGOTIATING WITH THE INDEPENDENTS, SEEKING EACH INDEPENDENTS VIEWS TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF THEIR CONSTITUENTS AND AUSTRALIANS ON THE WHOLE.

AS REPORTED IN THE SUNDAY MAIL 22nd August 2010 (Page 3), JULIA GILLARD CARETAKER PRIME MINISTER CAN THEN VISIT THE ATTORNEY GENERAL AND SEEK TO FORM GOVERNMENT AS SHE CAN GUARANTEE SUPPLY IN THE SENATE & THEREFORE A STABLE GOVERNMENT TO SATIFY ALL REASONAL CLAIMS FOR MORE REASONABLE SERVICES FOR ALL AUSTRALIANS INCLUDING THE RURAL SECTOR. ALSO AS THE LIBERAL NATIONAL ALLIANCE HAS NOT MADE UP THEIR SWING AGAINST THEM DURING THEIR HOWARD LOSS TO THE RUDD GOVERNMENT AND AS THE SENATE'S MAJORITY IS A LABOUR GREEN ALLIANCE, (CURRENTLY 16 LABOR, 3 GREENS AT 19 WITH ONE POSSIBLE INDEPENDENT SENATOR NICK XENOPHON) AND AS LIBERAL CURRENTLY HOLDING 16, EVEN WITH NICK XENOPHON MAKES 17 OF 36 SENATORS, NOT THE MAJORITY NEEDED. WITH THE NEW ELECTED SENATE MEMBERS THE LABOUR GREEN ALLIANCE HOLD A FURTHER 21, THEREFORE OVERALL TOTAL OF 40, WITH 2 POSSIBLE INDEPENDENTS. WHERE AS THE LIB NAT COALITION HOLD 18, THEREFORE OVERALL TOTAL OF 34 SENATORS - POSSIBLE 36 WITH THE INDEPENDENTS - NOT ENOUGH FOR THE LIB NATS TO GUARANTEE SUPPLY AND THEREFORE NOT MORE SUCCESSFUL OUTCOMES FOR THE INDEPENDENTS.

AS THE GREENS HAVE WON 6 MORE SENATE SEATS IN THE SENATE THIS ELECTION AND HOLD THE BALANCE OF POWER AND THEREFORE SUPPLY, THE LABOR GREEN ALLIANCE IS TOO STRONG FOR THE LIBNATS ALLIANCE. THEREFORE A LABOR, GREEN & INDEPENDENT GOVERNMENT IS IMMINENT.

THE INDEPENDENTS NO DOUBT WILL STILL BE NEGOTIATING FOR REGIONAL RIGHTS OF THEIR ELECTORATES WHICH HAVE BEEN MARGINALISED FOR TOO LONG AND THEY ARE LIKELY TO GAIN KEY REFORMS AND SERVICES WITH THE HELP OF THE LABOR GREEN ALLIANCE, WITH ONE OF THE INDEPENDENTS LIKELY TO BE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPS AND THEREFORE TOTALLING 77 SEATS MAKING UP A MINORITY GOVERNMENT OF LABOR, GREENS AND INDEPENDENTS WITH THE LIB NAT COALITION IN OPPOSITION.

THOUGHTS FOR VOTES = THE FEDERAL ELECTION SAT 21 AUGUST 2010 >>

Friday 20 August 2010
, updated Tuesday 24 Aug 2010

Unless I'm wrong, during this election only one party has promised to legalise same-sex marriage in Australia. That political party is The Greens. Sadly, both Labor and Liberal policy outlines still continue to deny "the right of all adults to marry" to all Australians, however this is likely to change once whichever party is elected, as no matter which party forms government, no government should be able to stand tall and continue to deny that the current marriage laws in Australia are relevant to all. Presently they continue to be discrimatory to all adult citizens of Australia. The Marraige law needs to be changed to non gender specific out of decency and for equal rights and justice and liberty to prevail if Australia truly wishes to claim it is democratic. I for one wish to live in a democracy.

It must be said that under the current Labor government due to updated legislation, laws protecting opposite-sex couples in our society now also apply to same-sex couples but only went as far as defacto status and this just isn't good enough, stopping short of the right of all individuals to marry their true love. Certain members within Labor support same-sex marriage and one Labor member recently stated, "If I were to be elected to parliament, I would advocate a free vote - a conscience vote on gay marriage and I would support it, because I don’t see the point in creating all this legislation to remove discrimination and then stopping short of allowing the same rights to marry as straight people."

Ms Gillard's indifference when questioned about gay marriage or same-sex marriage is disappointing, however when one of her labor members advocates the conscience vote on the equal right of all adults to marry and therefore support legislation to remedy an oversight, I hope she can put aside her current indifference, be selfless, and vote yes for equal rights to marriage.

Also, currently I'm disappointed with the Liberal party's leader Mr Abbott whom sadly also appears indifferent as to ensuring the total equal right to marriage for all adult Australians. Prior to the election launch and now a day out from tomorrow polling, he still seems indifferent. Am I to assume that his choice and Ms Gillards choice to love an opposite gender should also been mine. Shame. Shame. Shame. On the TV program Sixty Minutes when asked about homosexual rights Mr Abbott seemed uncomfortable - This from a man seeking leadership of this country. I for one expect more from someone who wishes to lead, manage and represent Australia on the world stage, hopefully his attitude will change for the better. May I remind Mr Abbott that Jesus was crucified due to predjudice otherwise disguised as discrimation and they tortured him on a cross to prove their indifference. No longer can I remain silent and sanction any elected politicians lack of conscience and indifference. I hope the next time they are faced with making the right decision for a minority group in our society and as politican doe what they are elected to do, protect minorities not just majorities and in this case I hope they will vote in the House of Representatives and the Senate for a society to allow all adults the right to choose the other adult they wish to marry. As the saying goes, "There is nothing to fear but fear itself."

Mr Brown, leader of The Greens this election asks us via their advertisements on TV to vote The Greens in the Senate which is determined by our personal vote on the WHITE SENATE UPPER HOUSE BALLOT PAPER.

SincereIy I put to anyone who disagrees with me, that i hope they will consider for a whole day, how they would feel, if as a heterosexual you couldn't marry your true love. Then imagine that you haven't been able to marry your true love for six months, one year, five years, twenty years or a whole lifetime, which has been the case throughout history until now, in progressive nations we embrace equal rights for all. I've had to live with less than equal rights just because I happen to be homosexual, I have not been able to marry anyone for at least twenty years since becoming an adult. For the fifty percent who may have been married and are divorced you may say what's this who ha. We'll at least you still can marry if you want to and those that don't believe in marriage so be it. But those adults that don't have the right should finally have the right to choose what others may take for granted. The history of marriage since the dawn of time has been an interesting one, you just have to search the topic on Wikipedia.com to understand it's not just for religious reasons. Maybe once and for all we can all be proud to live in a democratic society that gives all adults the choice of marriage. No longer should government officials or other citizens be apathetic. Please stand beside your homosexual sister, brother, mother, father, daughter, son, cousin, nanna, pop, grandma or grandfather, niece or newphew, and give them the same rights that we all should share as a basic human right, that is the legal right for all adults to marry the one they truly love if they so wish. I don't believe the youth of today need to go through what HP the co-founder of this website lesbiantribune.com or I or any other marginalised non heterosexual has had to endure in our lifetimes. HP died without this legislation, though always free in her heart and soul during her lifetime, however she deserved this freedom, that others enjoy yet who may not agree to this change in law. I hope those against this proposition take a hard look at their indifference and find the compassion and empathy needed to make a change for the better, maybe not for them in the first place, but be selfless for all those presently suffering and all those that have died without this peace of dignity, I believe we all deserve in our lifetimes.

This can be a life where there is zero tolerance to discrimination in any of our laws including the marriage law. I believe a conscience vote is necessary in the House of Representatives and the Senate as soon as reasonably possible after the next government is established - but only once huge discussion and number crunching has taken place so the first bill is effect through both houses - any misconceptions need to be addressed in the first instance and acknowledged, discussed and resolved.

Hopefully when all parliamentarians come to vote to change the discrimatory marriage laws in Australian law, they choose to give all adults the right to the equal rights of marriage, I hope they remember this quote before they make their vote count, to quote our Australian anthem, "Advance Australia Fair."

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

To remind and educate myself what the ramifications of my vote will determine I decided to research our current voting system, the information that follows is what I've realised:

To elect a desired Prime Minister and their political party to lead Australia for the next 3 years your personal voting on the GREEN HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES BALLOT PAPER will determine the outcome. A leader of a political party in Australia wins the election when it can form a government if it holds the majority of seats in parliament. There are 150 seats throughout Australia. Seats are allocated based on per capita population. In SA we have 11 of the 150 House of Representative seats to fill in the Australian Parliament in Canberra.

With preferential voting in Australia, your first choice and your second and following choices on the GREEN BALLOT PAPER could determine the overall winner of each seat and therefore our Prime Minister. If no candidate wins their seat by the majority and swing outright your second and following votes will be given to those leading candidates to determine the overall winner of that seat.

Law reform and changes, and policies are first discussed and passed in the Lower House, and final acceptance, any stalling or rejection happens in the Upper House. Whomever you vote for on the WHITE SENATE UPPER HOUSE BALLOT PAPER may help that candidate become a Senate representative. There is a total of 76 senators. Each senator sits for up to 6 years.40 are elected every 3 years, including at this election. Of the elected senators, there are 12 senators from each state, 5 senators from Tasmania, and 2 senators from the territories (NT and ACT).

One of the great aspects of our voting systems is you can personally vote for the same party in both houses on the green and white ballot papers or you can vote for different parties on either. Our votes for both houses are just as important as each other.

Please encourage your friends, family and colleagues to do the same. We need to demonstrate to the Australian Government that there is strong public support for same-sex marriage.

NEXT RALLY IN ADELAIDE: Sat 14 August 2010 @ 1pm in front of Parliament House

What is the campaign?

Equal Love is a nationwide campaign for same-sex marriage in Australia. We aim to put pressure on the government to legislate for equal marriage rights.

It has been six years since the Australian government amended the Marriage Act to ban same sex marriage. Six years of state-sanctioned homophobia is too many!

With a federal election approaching, all supporters of equal rights for same sex couples need to hit the streets and take part in the many actions and demonstrations organised by Equal Love as a part of the National Year of Action to show their opposition to homophobia.

We need to send a clear message to the government that discrimination in 2010 is not okay and will not be tolerated.

REMOVE ADOPTION DISCRIMINATION: INACTION IS UNACCEPTABLE

Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby
http://glrl.org.au

Tell your local MP to support an end to adoption discrimination NOW!

Clover Moore, a NSW MP has introduced the Adoption Amendment (Same-Sex Couples) Bill to remove discrimination against same-sex couples in adoption law. The Bill furthers the best interests of children by permitting same-sex couples eligibility to adopt including the right to adopt their partners childrnen - currently not possible and unfair as heterosexual couples can adopt their no biological children. Prospective parents should be assessed on objective criteria, not on their sexual orientation. This needs to be a national Bill not just a state Bill.

Take action now and tell your local MP that adoption equality will promote the best interests of children and urge them to support the Bill.

Demand immediate adoption equality to end the last piece of direct legislative discrimination against same-sex couples in NSW ... and throughout Australia.

Adoption Equality: Why it Matters

In NSW, lesbians and gay men can apply to adopt children as individuals, but not as a same-sex couple. This is because the definition of a 'couple' in the Adoption Act 2000 (NSW) only recognises married and opposite-sex de facto couples.

In 2008, the NSW Parliament passed important laws to recognise children born to lesbian couples through assisted conception procedures. Whilst these important parentage laws covered most children in same-sex families, some children were not covered.

Children in same-sex foster families, and some children with same-sex step parents and co-parents need adoption to ensure they also have equal rights and protection under the law. For these children, adoption will ensure their parents and families are also legally recognised and that they can have a birth certificate which reflects their family structure.

Same-sex couple adoption reform would ensure children have the benefit of:

Parental authority
Children in the care of same-sex couples could have two legally-recognised parents empowered to give consent for their medical treatment, take them to hospital, sign school permission notes, and interact with their child care centres and schools.

Custody and contact
Children in the care of same-sex couples who were adopted would have more certainty around their care and welfare if a parent dies or their parents separate.

Inheritance

Children in the care of same-sex couples who were adopted would have have automatic rights to inherit property and superannuation upon the death of their adoptive parents.

Entitlements and responsibilities conferred to parents and children under state and federal legislation

Any legislation which confered rights or responsibilities to a parent or child would be conferred to the adoptive parents and their child. For example, children will have rights to child support and worker’s compensation if an adoptive parent dies or is seriously injured at work.

Whilst most adoptions in Australia concern children known to the parents, some adoptions also involve the placing of an unrelated children with a new family. Adoption equality in this area would ensure that same-sex couples would be assessed according to objective criteria - like any other couple or individual - on their ability to provide a stable and loving home to a child.

However, even if NSW reformed its adoption laws, same-sex couples would not be eligible to adopt children from overseas at the present time. This is because the countries which have adoption arrangements with Australia do not presently accept same-sex couples as prospective parents.

Demand action on adoption equality now!

IDAHO PETITION: FOR INTERNATION EQUAL RIGHTS

IDAHO: IDAHO is the International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia

If you have not already done so, you and your family and friends can still continue to sign this petition started by Louis Georges Tin.

IDAHO was founded by Louis Georges Tin in 2005. Campaigns and Inititives take place on or around May 17th every year to combat prejudice against LGBT people. May 17th is chosen because it marks the anniversary of the day in 1990 when the World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from its list of mental diseases.

IDAHO is needed because: 86 member states of the United Nations still criminalise consensual same sex among adults. Among these 7 have legal provisions with the death penalty as punishment. In addition, there are 6 provinces or territorial units which also punish homsexuality with imprisonment.

Sisterhood of the Traveling Butterfly

THIS SAYS IT ALL:

Time Passes...

Life happens...

Distance separates...

Children grow up...

Jobs come and go. Love waxes and wanes. Some don't do what they're supposed to do...

Hearts break. Parents die. Colleagues forget favors. Careers end...

BUT... Sisters are there, no matter how much time and how many miles are between you. A girl friend is never farther away than needing her can reach...

When you have to walk that lonesome valley and you have to walk it by yourself, the women in your life will be on the valley's rim, cheering you on, praying for you, pulling for you, intervening on your behalf, and waiting with open arms at the valley's end...

Sometimes, they will even break the rules and walk beside you.... or come in and carry you out. Girlfriends, daughters, granddaughters...

Daughter-in-laws, sisters, sister-in-laws, mothers, grandmothers, aunts, nieces, cousins, and extended family, all bless our life!

The world wouldn't be the same without women, and neither would I. When we began this adventure called womanhood, we had no idea of the incredible joys or sorrows that lay ahead. Nor did we know how much we would need each other.. Every day, we need each other still.

Pass this on to all the women who help make your life meaningful. I just did. Short and very sweet. There are more than twenty angels in this world. Ten are peacefully sleeping on clouds. Nine are playing. And one is reading her email at this moment.

Send this message to ten of your friends including me. If you get 5 replies, someone you love will surprise you.

You are very special to me or I wouldn't be taking the time to send you this!

Hi Linda

I was wondering if you would be interested in printing the attached media release regarding Pink Sofa Cup in your next edition?

Pink Sofa Cup is a weekend each year during November for Lesbians to socialise in a friendly, fun and safe environment participating in golf, tennis or just coming along to watch and socialise. Held in a different state each year, the Pink Sofa Cup already has regular attendees who've experienced the friendly individual and state rivalry. You don't have to belong to any club. You can also just come along to enjoy the activities and socialise with similar women who can't wait for the next November Pink Sofa Cup event. Proudly sponsored by PinkSofa.com

We are also looking at doing some advertising to promote the event and would be interested in your advertising costs, would you be able to arrange for the relevant person to contact me regarding this?

Kind regards
